EXCURSIONS IN THE CITY

CLASSICAL VENICE

  You will begin your historical and artistic introduction to Venice at St. Mark's Square (Piazza S.Marco) and then proceed to admire the interior of St. Mark's (the Basilica). You will then continue with a visit to the Doge's Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the formers seat of government and home of the Dogi (Dukes) who ruled Venice in the early centuries.
The tour ends at the Bridge of Sighs that links the palace to the medieval prison, Palazzo delle Prigioni, across the canal.

THE SECRET PASSAGES OF THE DOGE'S PALACE

  This itinerary unfolds in the areas of the Palace which were excluded from the opulent scenographic rituals of the Republic, where the anonymous daily work of the state burocracy took place.
This itinerary is highly recommended as it gives a unique insight onto the way the Republic was run.

THE CHURCHES OF SAN ZACCARIA, SAN GIOVANNI AND PAOLO AND MIRACOLI

  You will visit on foot with a local guide the churches 'San Zaccaria' (whose walls are decorated with impressive paintings by the major late 17th century Venetian masters like Giovanni Bellini, Tintoretto, Vivarini and other Italian masters like Palma the Older, Andrea del Castagno and Giovanni d'Alemagna) and 'San Giovanni e Paolo (the burial place of 25 doges, built in 1430 has masterpieces of Bellini, Piazzetta and sculptures of Lombardo), passing by the church of the 'Miracoli' (masterpiece of Renaissance by Pietro Lombardo) and the Marco Polo's houses, reaching the Rialto bridge with its famous market .

CHURCH S. GIORGIO DEI GRECI AND SCUOLA S. GIORGIO DEGLI SCHIAVONI

  You will visit on foot with a local guide the orthodox church "San Giorgio dei Greci", including the museum of the icons, then 'San Giorgio degli Schiavoni''s school, famous for Carpaccio's paintings. The itinerary passes by the ancient dock-yards of the city: the Arsenal.

THE GUGGENHEIM COLLECTION AND THE SALUTE CHURCH

  Transfer by private water taxi from the hotel in Venice to Guggenheim, visit with Guide to see Peggy Guggenheim's Collection, one of the most representative displays of modern art in Europe, the church of 'Santa Maria della Salute' and the itinerary continues by passing in front of one of the latest examples of Gondola yards, located in San Trovaso. Return on foot through the Accademia Bridge to San Marco Square.

CHURCH S. MARIA DELLA SALUTE AND THE PALLADIAN CHURCHES

  Transfer on foot from the hotel and visit with guide to the church "Santa Maria della Salute". Transfer to the Giudecca Island and visit the church of the "Redentore" (Christ the Redeemer) and "Le Zitelle". Transfer to San Giorgio Island and visit the church of "San Giorgio Maggiore". Transfer back to the city-centre.
All transfers by private boat.

ART AND MUSIC IN VENICE

  The great Venetian musical tradition was based on two different kinds of institutions since the XVI century: St. Mark's Chapel, which had among its Master composers Andrea and Giovanni Gabrieli and Claudio Monteverdi, and the 'conservatives', related to the four major Hospitals of the town : the Incurabili, the Derelitti (Ospedaletto), the Mendicanti and the Pietà, where musicians of great importance like Legrenzi, Vivaldi, Galuppi and Cimarosa taught during a period of almost three hundred years.
The suggested itinerary includes, starting from St. Mark's Square, which not only has some of the most important monuments of the town, but also the major Venetian musical centres: the Ospedale dellaPietà, where Antonio Vivaldi, known as the 'Red Priest', taught music for over 35 years, the Derelitti (Ospedaletto) and the Mendicanti.

CHURCHES OF S. ZACCARIA, LA PIETA', S. GIOVANNI IN BRAGORA, S. GIOVANNI AND PAOLO, OSPEDALETTO

  The Church of San Zaccaria, built in a remarkably successful mixture of Gothic and Renaissance style begun by A. Gambello and finished by M. Codussi, is dedicated to San Zacharias, the father of St. John the Baptist whose relics are preserved here.
The Church of Santa Maria della Pietà, built by Massari, was an orphanage for girls founded in 1346 which achieved European fame for its music in the XVII/XVIIIth centuries.
In the peaceful Campo Bandiera e Moro leads the Church of San Giovanni in Bragora, an VIIIth century church which hosts a large canvas painting by Jacopo Palma Giovane.
The church of Santi Giovanni e Paolo disputes with the Church of Frari the first place among the huge Gothic brick churches of Venice.
Ospedaletto or Church of Santa Maria dei Derelitti was rebuilt by Longhena. In the nearby hospital there was a hospice for the edge in 1527 and an elegant music room by Matteo Lucchesi with frescoes by J. Guarama and Mengozzi Colonna.

TIEPOLO IN VENICE

  Scuola dei Carmini, Ca' Zenobio, Church of Gesuati
The Scuola dei Carmini is a neoclassical building of the XVIIth century standing outside the large Gothic Carmelite Church of Santa Maria del Carmelo.
The Palazzo Zenobio is one of the finest baroque buildings in Venice. It is located at the Carmini. The building was constructed at the end of the seventeenth century by Antonio Gaspari, a student of Longhena.
The Church of Gesuati or Santa Maria del Rosario has been built by the Dominicans in 1726/36 it stands on the spit of land at the end of which Santa Maria della Salute is situated.
A nice promenade will take you on the Zattere quay for a refreshment stop overlooking the Giudecca Canal. On the way back a "traghetto" by gondola will bring you onto the opposite side of the Grand Canal.

CASANOVA IN VENICE

  St. Mark's quarter, Santa Maria Formosa, S.S. Giovanni e Paolo, Rialto
Giacomo Casanova, one of the most famous venetian all-over the world, was born in Venice in 1725 and spent most of his life here. Nowadays it is possible to see in Venice the proof of his passage by walking through the historical centre.

THE ART OF MAKING MASKS IN VENICE

  The art of making masks is one of the most ancient handcrafts in town. With the hope of keeping in life this traditional art, in co-operation with a famous Masks atelier, we can organise practical courses where experts teach the history of masks and how to make and paint them.
There are various kind of courses. The basic one lasts 4 hours and the final result is that guests make and paint their own mask. The course is held inside this atelier and the atmosphere is very special.

CA' REZZONICO AND THE MASKS ATELIER

  The Palace best known to visitors of Venice is the Palazzo Rezzonico at San Barnaba on the Grand Canal. The Ca Rezzonico, as popularly and correctly referred to, now houses the city's museum of the 18th century decorative arts,- a collection of furnishings and art treasures from various Venetian family houses which gives an overview of the patrician splendor of an eighteenth century Venetian Palace.
After leaving the museum, continue on foot to a mask atelier where you will have the opportunity to be entertained by an English speaking mask maker, who will describe the history of Venetian masks in the theater and arts.

GHETTO NUOVO, MARCO POLO HOUSE & RIALTO MARKET AREA

  The most interesting highlights include the "Ghetto Nuovo", the world's first ghetto created in 1516 as an enclave in which the city's Jews were ordered to live.
After the visit you will proceed to the Rialto district passing by Marco Polo House, which is dedicated to the famous explorer, who traveled the far reaches of the world in the 1300s and 1400s.
You will then cross the distinctive Rialto Bridge spanning the Grand Canal, to join the city's historic commercial zone, home to banks and maritime businesses. Today it is still the most popular shopping area for Venice's residents. Equally, tourists find the lively Rialto market, with shops lining the bridge and continuing beyond, an attractive venue.

CRUISE ALONG THE GRAND CANAL AND THE CANALE DELLA GIUDECCA

  A cruise along the Grand Canal will permit you to discover and admire all the beautiful palaces that arose from its banks. To quote Charles VIII of France's ambassador in 1495, this is "the most beautiful street in the world".
Known to the Venetians as the "Canalazzo", the Grand Canal sweeps through the heart of Venice. Since the founding days of the empire it has served as the city's main thoroughfare.
The Canal Grande is home to such architectural greats such as the Palazzo Mocenigo, where Lord Byron lived, the Palazzo Grassi, Cà Foscari, Cà Rezzonico, Ca'd'Oro, Cà Pesaro.
At the end of the Grand Canal you will continue your cruise along the Canale della Giudecca, which divide the island of the Venice from the Giudecca Island.

VENETIAN AFTERNOON

  You will leave by gondola from the nearest gondola embarkation point and sail through the small canals around St. Mark's Area. During this 45-minute ride you will be delighted by a couple of singers who will play typical venetian songs.
At the end of the gondola ride, a short walk to St. Mark's Square will lead you to an apéritif- stop at the famous Café Florian, which was the favourite haunt of 19th c. literary figures such as Byron, Dickens and Proust.

EXCURSION TO THE ISLANDS OF MURANO/BURANO AND TORCELLO

  Water tour of the northern lagoon by private motor-launch with English speaking assistance.
The first stop will be in Murano, the island of the glass, here clients will have the opportunity to see a "Glass Master" in action inside a Glass Factory. The visit will continue with a short walk in Burano, a typical fisher's island where all the houses are painted in different bright colours (this little island is also famous for its laces).
Last stop is Torcello, the "craddle" of Venetian civilisation where guests will visit the Byzantine Cathedral, harbouring the unique mosaic "The Universal Judgement". Time permitting, lunch in a typical restaurant on the island.

HISTORICAL HIGHLIGHTS

  This special occasion will permit you to discover the treasures of the Basilica outside normal opening hours and of course without tourist crowds!
You will be entertained by local guides who will give you explanations about the exterior and the interior as well. When you will enter the Basilica, all the lights will be switched off. During a short organ concert, all the lights will be switched on little by little and you will discover all the Gold hand made mosaics of the Cathedral.

After or before this visit we can organise a welcome-apéritif at the Café Florian, the oldest Cafe in St. Mark's Square which has been established in 1746.




SPECIAL ACTIVITIES

WALKING RALLY (TREASURE HUNT)

  Orientation and ability competition on foot through the narrow streets of Venice
The grp will be divided into several teams of about 10 pax each with 1 captain: each captain will receive a road map with the itinerary and a list of questions: The rally will start from a certain point in Venice and each team has to follow the itinerary filling up the questionnaire (i.e how many steps has the Rialto Bridge?, what's the name of the gondoliers: etc).

PHOTO COMPETITION

  We will suggest to clients a theme of Venice : the group will be divided into several teams and each one of them will have to take the best photo (this competition can also be turned into a Photo treasure hunt with the some venetian photos to be taken as a proof of the itinerary made)

"CICCHETTO" TOUR (or Wine tasting tour)

  With Guide assistance, orientation tour through the 'calli' of Venice to the typical area where all the Venetians meet. We will stop in 2/3 'baccari' (Venetians Tavernas) for a 'cicchetto' (little snacks)and an 'ombra' (wine tasting)

HELICOPTER EXCURIONS ON THE NORTH AND SOUTH PART OF THE LAGOON OF VENICE AND FLYING ABOVE THE CITY

  Transfer by private water taxies to the Airport at the Lido. There will be 3-4 Helicopters at disposal with 6 seats. The flight will be 15 minutes and it will be on the North and South part of the Lagoon of the City plus a complete view of Venice from the Air.
In the meantime the people wait for their turn to fly a cocktail can be organised at the Airport of the Lido



HOT AIR BALLOON

  Fly above the lagoon of Venice (weather permitting). Capacity per balloon 5 persons. The tour can last between 30 to 45 minutes. This has not be done yet as we had, in the past, many problems with the authorisations but we used it anchored on an Island of Venice (just in front of the Doges Palace) and people went up to 100 meters to observe the beauty of the Venetian lagoon


GONDOLA RACE
************************************************************************************************************************************************
  There will be 10 typical Venetian boats at disposal with 4 passengers rowing on a Venetian style. Therefore only two hosts will be rowing together with two Venetians experts. The two Hosts will have, before the race, two hours where they will be taught how to row . The race will be approx 20/25 minutes. There will be a Referee who will give the starting time and penalties should this happen. If there are any other Customers travelling together with them who want to see the Race a big motor-launch will be put at disposal in order to follow the Race and to support them. At the end of the Race a little Party will be organised in the Rowing Club with wine/beers and some snacks. ( Half day)
